A very kind and generous Head recently let me burn 11/17/78b, the middle show from the November '78 run at the Uptown. It took me many years to find it (the only show I didn't have from "From Egypt With Love" through New Year's), and I'm so glad I did. Sure, the whole first set save the "Shakedown" opener is missing, and the sound is rocky, but the show -- played on the same date as the Rambler Room performance -- is transportative bliss. Without question, the most expressive, dynamic, and affecting "Ship of Fools" I've heard. "Eyes" is second only to Rochester 11/21/78 in ultimate fluency. "Terrapin" out of "Space" is a revelation. First "Casey Jones" since New Year's '77.

Unlike the Rambler Room performance, this show is really hard to find. I'll be happy to snail-mail it to any sincerely interested takers. Trades preferred; B. & P. fine as well.

A good Memorial Day weekend to all.

Best,
deadhead66

P.S.: I forgot to mention that "Tom Dooley" and "Deep Elem Blues" from the Rambler Room are featured as bonus tracks on the expanded and remastered version of Reckoning.
